Here are some shots we took of the sunset at our anchorage.
Did some chores this morning before we weighed anchor from Indian Harbor to head further north in Georgian Bay. Our tour guides, the McKendrys, will point out anchorages along the way. As we left we noticed that someone had built a man out of large rocks that pints the way out of Indian Harbor.
We headed out into the Small Craft Channel through the granite islands scattered over this part of Georgian Bay. Here the granite formations are so interesting!
Then we went past a King’s Bay and it’s potential anchorage and out towards more open water.
Wound our way around O’Donnell’s Point and behind Bowens Island and into 12 Mile Bay, which is quite narrow and really is 12 miles long cutting east through the Canadian Shield.
We found two good anchorages with lots of exploring options with the dinghy.
Next we again headed back into the Small Craft Channel around Loon Island and it’s multitude of small islands nearby. Is weird to go so close to rocks and still be in 30/feet of water!
We crossed Starvation and Moon Bays on our way toward Frying Pan Island. The cottages in this area are fewer as they are exposed to more open water.
Made a stop for lunch at Henry’s Fish Restaurant that serves, you guessed it fresh fish- pickerel or white fish. The fish is pan fried or battered and served with chips, beans and slaw. A lot of food and very fresh!!
We even saw a seaplane bring in customers to the restaurant and then take them home.
After lunch Bill and Andy trouble shot a charging issue with Andy’s boat. After many tries, the duo managed to jerry rig the electrical on Andy’s boat,
so we took off from Henry’s and headed east to an anchorage in Port Rawson Bay. Was quite a winding path between islands to get to here with very few cottages along the way.
We dropped the hook in one of the bay's arms, near Bear Island. Is quiet and secluded.
Day 35 2nd year June 24. Backtracking and anchoring in Inner Bay. Miles 26.1. Total 3276
Had a lazy morning at Port Rawson, which is in the Massasauga Provincial Park. This is large tract of land and associated islands with no roads and very sparsely populated as most of the land is park. This morning the only noise was a light wind and birdsong.
Today we begin our solo adventure in Georgian Bay as we backtrack to Midland (towards the beginning of Georgian Bay). We are backtracking as our son, Kyle, is coming to visit/cruise with us. Our tour guides, the McKendrys, will continue their journey. They were the best Canadians ever!!!
We weighed anchor and followed the path we used to get into Port Rawson to get back out. In boating it is called following your breadcrumbs on the GPS. On our way we noticed the Pennsylvania Club docks and lodge which promotes catch and release fishing. No wonder we saw so many fishing boats in this area. Note: This Club got its name because it is on Pennsylvania Island.
We connected back to the Small Boat Channel and headed south retracing our steps past -
Frying Pan and San Souci Islands
12 Mile Bay
Idled through the rocks at O’Donnells Point
Indian Harbor and the man of rocks
And winding through Monument Channel
Then we turned at Bushby Inlet and slowly picked our way into Go Home Bay to anchor further up in Inner Bay. This is a new anchorage for us.
Inner Bay is filled with cottages and lots of forest. We anchored with a Canadian sailboat and enjoyed our afternoon exploring the area by dinghy. This bay has lots of nooks and crannies to explore.
