Day 87-89. June 27-29 In Cohoes, NY lay days and flying to Atlanta to see grandbaby

Day 87-88 Some pictures from the Blain’s Marina near Cohoes, NY Here are some drone shots from our marina .  We slept late and cleaned the boat, did laundry, and caught up on photo management.   Bill tweaked  the salt water pump and replaced the VHF radio.    The photo above shows Bill lying in the cabinet that houses the electronics on the fly bridge in order to access the VHF radio. Took time away from chores to go on a bike ride.  There was a nice bike path that went to a local park. Next we packed up to get ready to fly to Atlanta to see my daughter and her new baby, Avery, and celebrate her other daughter Mia’s second birthday.  We are excited to be reconnecting with family.  Kyle will join us for a few days while we are in Atlanta, so the whole family will be together. We will take an Uber to the Albany airport and fly direct into Atlanta tomorrow early afternoon. As we will be in Atlanta for a week, I will collect photos to post and share at least once while we are away in Atla

Day 85. June 26 Waterford NY and the Erie Canal

We stayed today at the Waterford dock.   Started our day enjoying the small farmers market and live music here in the dock area.  Quite a few locals also enjoyed the morning here.   Waterford is a small town which was originally settled by the Dutch for trading furs with the Mohican Indians of the area.  The town became a shipping hub in  the 1700’s as sloops from New York would travel up the Hudson to Waterford.  The town expanded as the shipping grew and in the early 1800’s shipping expanded further with the construction of the Champlain Canal, connecting Lake Champlain to the Hudson and the Erie Canal, connecting the Great Lakes to the Hudson River.  Thus Waterford became the connection point for the Hudson River and all point north and west.   Besides the shipping economy, Waterford also had textile mills, iron works and constructed fire engines. Next we walked to the juncture of the Hudson and Erie Canal and took a picture of the sign providing directions to the boaters to either

June 24. Day 83. On to Troy NY. 30 Nm. Total 1810. Also on to Waterford NY. Day 84

It’s a beautiful sunny day, leaving Hudson, NY.  The river is flat calm and it’s two to four knot current is pushing us along as we head north.   This section of the river has islands with channels behind them-similar to oxbows, a scattering of small towns- Coxsackie, Stuyvesant, New Baltimore; and large farms ( along the west shore). Surprisingly, we had quite a bit of barge and ship traffic along the way. We traveled under the Castleton on Hudson bridge an the town of Castleton on the eastern shore. After a few miles north of the bridge, the river turns and you can see the first of the buildings of Albany, NY.  We stopped in Albany at their free dock so we could walk the city. Walking through Troy, we admired the older architecture dating from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s..  we especially enjoyed the Delaware Hudson Railroad Building built 1814-1918, several churches, and the State Capitol Building. After lunch, we continued our walk to the Nelson Rockefeller Empire Plaza bui
