Day 29
Well, the Easter bunny found us even in the Bahamas!! Happy Easter!!!
After catching up with the weather, we took the school supplies we brought to donate and headed to the dinghy dock.
Our first attempt to donate was thwarted as the church was holding services with another and was not open!! So we went to Plan B and went back to Snappas's, the restaurant from the night before and they graciously agreed to get the school supplies to Every Child Counts on Tuesday when the school reopens. Every Child Counts provides services to handicapped children in the Abacos.
We also had brunch at Snappa's and then took off to explore the east side of Marsh Harbor.
Marsh Harbor is a contrast of new and old, homes rebuilt and those still damaged, and beautiful views of the harbor and Sea of Abaco.
We walked through the Abaco Resort and Marina which is all relatively new. From the marina we could see Elbow Cay across the Sea of Abaco.
Then we walked through an older neighborhood that took us up the hill where we found some quirky finds and a yellow "castle" at the top.
Bill is sitting on a heavy base from a Caterpillar bull dozer, left to create a break wall for the waves of the marina.
These limestone walls were scattered all over the east end of March Harbor. Is amazing how the plants take root in all its crevices.
The castle is actually a private residence which has been on the island for around 50 years. According to a neighbor, they original owner's children now own the house.
The view from the top of the hill gave us a 360 view of the east end of the island and the cays off the main island.
We returned to town and stopped by to say goodbye to Trish and Mike as they will head west to get back to the states and we will go a bit west and then south to continue our journey in the Bahamas.
